Pros
US Foods has some of the best people that I have ever met anywhere, foodservice or otherwise. Great drivers, warehouse, customer service, credit, purchasing, and administrative people. The people that I worked with came from Sandler, PYA/Monarch, Mazo-Lerch, Atlantic, Continental, Sexton, Alliant, and Roanoke Restaurant Service all of which had been acquired by US Foods and were with very few exceptions absolutely the hardest working people that I have ever met. US Foods people navigated every merger, sale, restructure, etc. never really missing a beat, shipping millions of cases, working through disparate systems, keeping customers happy, and making the donuts everyday.
Cons
In my opinion, after the accounting scandal in 2004 the company became a collection of watchdogs at the regional and corporate levels working incessantly to catch people doing something wrong. Constant calls to "800 Tip Line" spurring investigation after investigation. Leadership at the division level became subservient to regional management and lost the ability to be leaders at the division level. Essentially more and more decisions were made by the legal department in Rosemont. Vast amounts of time, energy, and money was spent building regional management structures that in most cases really didn't add value to the divisions.
