Pros

If you are in the CEO's good graces, you'll get paid well and lots of positive attention. Important to note: many reviews on US Mobile's Glassdoor are fraudulent. The company leadership had the product support team, based in Pakistan, leave 5-star reviews while falsely claiming to be US-based employees. I counted 17 such reviews from February 12th, 2021 onward that are the result of this fraudulent initiative designed to game Glassdoor ratings.

Cons

Bottom line & TL;DR If you need a job, working at US Mobile is a fine way to get into the industry. If you have other offers, I'd recommend you choose them instead. This organization has left a wake of hurt alumni whose contributions have been devalued and disrespected. Founder & CEO Profile Charismatic, likely bipolar, intense, manipulative, dishonest. Chooses favorites. In a good mood, talks about wildly high valuations and how much money everyone is going to make upon the company's exit. In a bad mood, harasses and abuses employees verbally, both 1-on-1 and intentionally in front of others. Has a short attention span. Has a background of alleged embezzlement and fraud (see Yu v. GSM Nation). Has a history of threatening and failing to renew international employees' visas, upending people's lives. Gossips frequently behind employees' backs with their colleagues. Company Culture Secretive and distrustful. Lack of written long-term strategy, goals, and milestones. As an employee, you will hardly ever have access to trustworthy data about the company's performance. Priorities shift weekly as company leaders chase short term gains. Different functions work independently, often unaware what projects each other are up to. The growth and marketing function is particularly abysmal and paralyzed. Employee Experience Highly stressful. Employees are online on Slack well into the evening and on weekends, even if there's no major outage, just in case the CEO messages. CEO routinely contacts employees, including on personal phones, while on vacation asking them to work. If you are not a favored employee, your work will be visibly picked apart and criticized in front of others. New Employee Experience No systematic onboarding (except for the Product Support function). The CEO throws new employees into the deep end without training, and your tenure at US Mobile depends on how you deal with this initial project. HR and Performance Evaluation Leaders form arbitrary opinions about individuals that aren't linked to their actual job performance. There is a complete lack of helpful, positive coaching for individuals to develop hard and soft skills. Rather, everytime someone makes a mistake, the CEO will memorize it and bring it up in moments of anger in order to humiliate the employee. An elitist, he celebrates individuals from Ivy League educational backgrounds and devalues others. I lost count of the number of times he discussed specific individuals' intelligence, or lack thereof. The hires frequently just out of college, as young people are easier to control. Just as often, it's not possible to get a performance evaluation at all. One colleague's annual review was delayed by more than 4 months because it wasn't a priority for leaders. Employee Exits The company has struggled to retain experienced and senior colleagues. Layoffs and firings happen in secret and are unlinked to job performance. Two 10+ YOE colleagues were fired a couple months after starting because their function "wasn't needed anymore." Colleagues leaving for new opportunities are gagged and their teams not informed until their literal last day at the company. Benefits The health insurance option was an expensive gold-level Connecticut-based PPO with few if any providers local to New York City. Technology and Product Profile Marketing material is merely dreamware, and the technology and product are 2-3 years behind what it claims.

Pros

Free meals, unlimited PTO (no questions asked), good banter with coworkers.

Cons

Leadership is very unprofessional and that makes its way downstream to the lower levels of the hierarchy. Each week, it seemed like the CEO would pick a new team to pick on and yell at in front of the whole office for seemingly no reason. Constantly felt like I was going to be laid off at any moment because he was always making comments about how we were wasting money paying certain employees. Pretty much every weekend we would receive angry Slack messages from him about something that could have waited until Monday. I understand that this is typical of a start-up, but there is also not a lot of real direction on projects so you kind of have to make your own work. Ultimately it was just not a very pleasant environment to be in lol.
