Pros

Not many pros. Some of the HQ staff were nice and helpful, but most were clueless about the work we were doing at the UN.

Cons

When Donald Trump withdrew the USA from the World Health Organization, all the faith based organizations met to decide what to do. I reported this meeting to the UUA and got a call telling me, "Don't you know you are a White Man telling a Black Woman what to do?" I responded that I wasn't telling anyone to do anything. I was just reporting what other faith-based organizations were doing. In the end the UUA did nothing about Trump's withdrawal of the USA from the World Health Organization in the midst of the COVID Pandemic.

Pros

The UUA cares about employees as people, and encourages spiritual as well as personal growth. There's a reverence for diversity and progressive politics. It's a small workplace, with many wonderful people.

Cons

Compensation is at or below average for the nonprofit sector. In other words, people don't work here for the money! There's a wide variety of employee satisfaction, because so much of the tone of any given department are at the whim of its director. Long-term employees who are comfortable in their jobs tend to stay forever, so there are fewer opportunities for advancement than you might expect.
