Pros

A lot of windshield time between stops to listen to study material to get a better job. Once you leave the hub, you're on your own and won't be bothered.

Cons

You beat the snot out of your own vehicle and the income really doesn't offset the overall expenses. And the deduction you can take off your taxes doesn't really improve the overall economics. When your vehicle breaks down, and it will, you will spend a weeks pay to get it fixed. You don't get paid while at the hub working to reconcile the days load, route/sequence your stops, and load up the van. @ 1-1.5 hours each day. You pay for your own fuel. $1.10 charge per day for use of a scanner. When I started, there wasn't a fee but they added it without saying anything. I found out when I got my next check. $30.00 per week fee for a 3rd party to process all your work and to calculate your pay. You pay the extra portion of "self-employment" tax. No benefits, i.e. medical, dental, 401k, no paid-time off, no holiday pay.... Poor management. Rather, no leadership to resolve issues as they arise. Watching people get berated by the supervisor in front of others is hard to watch, and listen too. Asking for a day off is like pulling teeth. It's all about the company needs, never your needs. Although I have one of the better routes out of the Waukegan, IL hub, overall, with the expenses you incur, you'll never make a living at this. Especially if you have mouths to feed. The high turnover rate is always a red flag isn't it? I'll be leaving soon too.

Pros

Great place for independent contractors. Structure your day around how much you want to earn. You contract work in the morning, but you need more money just come back in the afternoon and make more money.

Cons

The harder you work, the more money you earn.

Pros

You control your involvement in the delivery process. You have more control over the money you make based upon your availability and work ethic. You can also operate a business within UDS by subcontracting the work received to others in your employ provided UDS has a need for your service and your employees (your business) proves reliable and dependable.

Cons

There is NO security. NO signed contracts prohibiting UDS from snatching all the work your currently receive on a whim or to award it to someone else. You must own your tools for delivery including your truck or van. No benefits whatsoever. Salary is by the "piece delivered". So if your are not running a regular pharmaceutical route with a set number of stops and a consistent daily pay, your pay is subject otherwise to the total number of pieces available for you to deliver on a given day. So, weekly pay is subject to high fluctuation.
