Pros
Decent pay with work from home flexibility if you live outside of the range of the office. Organization is willing to compete with current market rates to obtain resources. Opportunity to take on a lot of responsibility.
Cons
Technology is very old and processes immature. The organization is highly dependent on day to day support to keep systems running, while projects take extremely long and lack significant progression for the organization. Majority of the leadership in IT lacks the technical competency and modern knowledge to successfully mentor, grow, and invest in their technical staff. They expect the staff to learn from LinkedIn learning on their own time. They depend heavily on vendors to have ownership and decisioning on how systems should be managed and run vs. listening to their own staff who are vested in the company. Very few individuals across IT have the depth, knowledge, and leadership necessary to run a high performing modern technology team. This becomes less and less each month as turnover for other organizations are more advantageous looking. Those that know what is needed to be done are typically over worked and taken advantage of by the leaders who cannot relate to today's skills. The IT organization does very little to promote from within and invest in their resources while expecting them to just take on extra responsibilities while paying new hires significantly more then existing staff.
