Pros
VLP is an awesome company!
My father and grandfather always did business here.
When you are working here you are working for a man, not a conglomerate. All of the senior management will know your name and care about you and the work you do. Each time someone is hired the office sends out an introduction of them their family and their work. On my first day one of the guys had a baby and they sent everyone an announcement with the specs and name and health status. I got a card from the owner on my first anniversary, I haven't reached my second yet.
What company does that?
VLP has been around for over 100 years, most of that is due to quality people from owner and management down to the lowly sales weasels! They try very hard to keep everyone involved and connected. I have been here over a year and am still on the honeymoon!
Cons
VLP has leaned up their workforce in recent years. They had a lot of layoffs in the past few years. The people they layed off were mostly non-essential, redundant, or mediocre staff. They are hiring now, looking for office and field help. This is a sales organization, if you aren't pulling your weight, you will be cut.
