Pros
- International workplace with smart, travel-minded coworkers
- Clean, well-designed office space with many windows
- Occasional travel opportunities for expats in Marketing and Leisure Departments
- 50% of the year out of office leading trips in Education Department
- Great locations near Liangmaqiao subway: many restaurants, bars, and a river to walk along
Cons
TERRIBLE BENEFITS FOR FOREIGNERS:
- Foreigners have to pay for their own visa runs, which is unheard of in other companies
- No Medical Insurance
- Low Salaries
BLEAK COMPANY CULTURE
- There is a general unhappiness around the office for several reasons: hard work not being recognized, low pay with barely any raises and bonuses, mismanagement, high-stress work environments, high turnover rates
- The company culture is broken up into veteran staff and new staff, and then split up more by foreign and local staff
- There is rampant bullying within the office: Some among veteran staff to younger staff, however the worst of it is among the maids ("a-yi"). Though workers see and hear unfair treatment to the "a-yi" staff, higher management has yet to lift a finger to approach this.
- Many coworkers commiserate about working at WildChina: topics include why a 15-year old company still works like a startup, daily issues with management, the company not doing well financially, bullying among departments, rare career development opportunities, and the secret date when another coworker plans to leave.
WORDS OF ADICE:
- Only join WildChina if you are on a Work Visa, or be sure to negotiate with the company that they pay for your visa runs if on a Tourist Visa.
- Be sure to negotiate for the highest salary because you will most likely not receive a raise or annual bonus during your time in the company
- Leave the office everyday at 6pm and make a healthy work/life balance because WildChina does not pay overtime, and you should not work extra hours for free and with little recognition
- When HR gives you paperwork to sign, be sure to read the fine print carefully because some policies strip away minor, but important rights as a foreign employee (you also do not need to sign)
- There are phenomenal people that are keeping WildChina afloat, and you will know who...get to know them!
