Pros

Great healthcare and salary. Great coworkers. LMSW program is pretty new so if you are more of a self-starter, that might be appealing. Clients are awesome and the work is, for the most part, fulfilling & gratifying.

Cons

No paid holidays off (comes out of comp time) and must work some weekends. Shelters are located in unsafe/desolate areas, and there are some safety concerns both in and out of the shelter which could be taken more seriously. LMSWs currently get little/no supervision. Work load not realistic, many staff burnt out, very high turnover. A lot of uncertainty about LMSW program, doesn't feel like it was implemented in the best ways. Some tensions between case management and other staff. General culture of working against rather than for the clients. Put too much emphasis on their metrics/$$ and will discourage workers from spending too much time with clients for the sake of getting numbers up, paperwork done.

Pros

Decent pay and time off

Cons

WIN does not care about its employees. I was assaulted on shift and WIN refused to share camera footage with me or the police. I filed for workers comp so I could go to therapy and they fired me shortly afterwards. The building I worked at had a shooting in the lobby and people would overdose in the stairs. The clients/tenants are nasty and rude to the employees. One of the superintendents committed suicide in his apartment. Managers will rarely checked on the building, and the employees at our sister site up the block were afraid to cover our building shifts. The family shelter sites run out of cribs, while upper management throws Gala’s and celebrates their “success” Do not work here if you value your life
