Pros

The pros of working at a la mode are part of the smoke and mirrors. While working, you can go grab some Cheezits or a banana. The Christmas party is fantastic, and they will bring beer to meetings. Some employees worked remote, so that would be a perk.

Cons

Unfortunately, the cons far outweigh the pros. Management has absolutely no idea how to manage. I question actual knowledge, as opposed to the ability to manipulate. After sitting in on a few meetings at the beginning of my tenure, it was obvious that management was full of it. It's unsettling when the person running the meeting seems more concerned with being a skilled orator than actually delivering something to the team of substance. Also, if they tell you one week that you are doing your job well, they will probably let you go the next. I had a great review and then the next week, I had to pack my stuff.

Pros

a la mode, inc. operates in a typical 9-6 work day for most employees. You are expected to come in on time (preferably a few minutes early) and be ready to work. You receive two fifteen minute breaks as well as an hour lunch. a la mode provides excellent accommodations to its employees. They have a wide selection of free food and drinks for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They throw great parties and even allow management to imbibe in a drink at lunch. The insurance plans a la mode offers is amazing. The environment is fairly laid back and it is a great place to work.

Cons

Unfortunately, the supervisor I was under was a complete cotton headed ninny muggins. He didn't have the slightest clue about how a google search works, let alone the way that software actually operates and the cause of errors. He also was unable to grasp why employees shied away from his management style, which mostly involved a bipolar swing between lighthearted conversation and condescending remarks. He has multiple degrees and so he was over qualified when he was brought on as a customer service technician. He was quickly catapulted up the ranks based on degrees rather than actual experience or qualifications. As long as you receive a good team with a great supervisor after training, this job could turn into a great career. Beware faulty leadership, though.

I’m sorry you had the experience you describe with your supervisor. Having a supervisor that says condescending remarks to any employee isn’t acceptable. I’m surprised your manager didn’t understand how the search worked or the software operated. All of our direct support supervisors have worked at least seven months or more directly on the phone with customers, fulfilling the same role and responsibility as you, before being promoted to a supervisor.
