Pros
inMusic Brands is a good place for unemployed and lost music technology graduates who need some hard skills and something of value on their resume. There is a lot of challenging work and responsibility starting from day one. The teams tend to be tight and as a result a more senior colleague will always be there to mentor and guide you when you are out of your depth. The organisation and the work still tend to be organic, and a person can have a large impact on the process and on the products. Even though there is a hierarchy, the company feels very horizontal. People from the decision-making layer frequently communicate with people in the trenches. The work-life balance is great. People come early/stay late extremely rarely. Very laid-back, casual, open and jovial work atmosphere.
Cons
The benefits are almost non-existent and the salary is depressingly low when compared to the same positions in other industries. When a piece of kit is needed, a very big case needs to be made about it and it takes ages for it to get approved as an expense. Since it is so hard, some people give up and buy things from their own pocket just to get the job done - e.g. USB sticks, cables, USB hubs, headphones, etc. There is a scary staff turnover rate in the entry-level positions. Responsibilities in those roles tend to rise exponentially faster than the salary and people lose interest. This means the recruitment process is constant and the Software QA team is almost never the same for more than 6 months. The knowledge, experience and talent is slowly but steadily leaving and it is a little demoralising.
