Pros
I started at me&u as an intern with zero hospitality tech background. I'm now a Senior Manager running a global operation. That wasn't an accident and not only down to me. me&u took a chance on an unproven intern and kept backing me through new role, team lead, manager then senior manager. I've seen them do the same for plenty of others. What I experienced throughout: - Safety to learn and fail: I made decisions and took actions that didn't work out. They weren't held over my head. Expectation is to fix, reflect, learn and move on as someone who knows better now. This is the biggest reason for my growth. - Genuinely good people: Smart, kind, low ego. People take care of office space, prep weekly lunch, and eat together. Office days is something I opt into, not something I survive. - Flexibility on where and when you work: I decide day by day whether I want to be in office or work from home, no permission needed. Hours are also accomodating and flexible (dependent on role type). - Managers who manage: Andy (my direct manager) and Kerry (above him) have been a big reason behind my longevity and growth. They challenge me when I need it, get out of my way when I don't, and back me even when I'm still figuring something out. I can have open conversations with both, disagree with them when I do, and work out a better solution together. No walking on glass. - CEO who tells you what's going on: Kim is as transparent as a CEO can reasonably be. Direction of the company, what's working, what isn't, mistakes made along the way, monthly AMA, etc. She doesn't pretend the path is straight when it isn't. It builds a lot of trust in a scaling company where things are fluid. - Investment in how you work: Tools, training, time to think, budget to learn and develop. I've been given room to bring and develop internal tooling and AI into our operations without needing to justify every step. That's not normal at most companies. - The right approach on AI: Lot of companies right now are using AI as an excuse to cut headcount and book short term profit bump. I'm not seeing me&u doing that. They're providing people with tools to produce more than ever before. I get to lean hard on AI with team empowerment as the goal, not replacement. It's a meaningful difference.
Cons
- It's a scaling hospitality tech company, so things move fast and processes are still catching up to the size of the business in places. If you need a built playbook for every situation, this will feel uncomfortable. If you like helping build the playbook, you'll thrive. - Hospitality runs on weekends and late nights, so depending on the role you'll feel that occasionally. It's managed well but worth recognising the nature of the industry. - Priorities shift. Strategy may move quickly and work you were deep in last quarter can get re-prioritised. This can be frustrating and may be an adjustment for many.
