Pros
I've worked at major PR firms and had my own one-person shop, newsPRos is the best of both. The work is stimulating, requiring that employees bring their A-game everyday. We stay on top of a myriad of newsworthy issues that impact our clients and are expected to deliver media opportunities. A high degree of independence means employees must be self-starters in terms of getting the work done. No day is like another, some are fast-paced and deadline-filled, others allow you to focus on administrative upkeep, research, etc. Owner is smart, total professional who brings integrity to her business and expects employees to do the same.
Cons
If you need ongoing supervision to complete a task, this isn't the right place for you. Employees are top-shelf who deliver the goods, so expectations are rightly high. Owner wants to be copied on most emails, which some won't like. That said, it's her business and clients go to her with questions, so she needs to know not only what's going on but also that correspondence is appropriately professional. Once she's confident in your skills, the reins loosen.
