Pros

The institution is very small, around 200 people. Everyone knows everyone and they work in a pretty friendly manner. If you are competent, everyone will know very quickly. If you are incompetent, the same. Good budget for training, if you want to learn new skills, its covered by the ESM, up to a limit, but certainly several thousands of Euros a year per employee. No bad politics between the staff, they work well together, real teamwork. Staff supports each other, not only because they are smart and nice, but they all have two common enemies: highly incompetent HR and self serving and self centred senior management, obsessed with own personal image.

Cons

Senior management does not care about the staff, about work, creating value or doing anything good for EU, they only care about having an army of people preparing speeches and presentations that allows the senior management to shine. its like a PR agency. The ESM has become a highly useless and ghost institution since the last loan they gave to Greece. There is nothing to do there now, yet, they keep this institution running mainly to protect some highly paid board members that do nothing all day. They have all become highly irrelevant, just as the institution. Most people do reporting, internal briefings , minutes... Nothing of value or impact.

Pros

If you are lucky enough that your boss likes you, you can get a really well-paid position. Good benefits.

Cons

The organization has well-formulated policies and other governing documents. The problem is that management does not care a whit about complying with them. They make arbitrary decisions and do not care much about the consequences because they have immunity. Management rules with fear, and instead of leading employees and creating a good workplace, they have created a toxic organization where employees rather than collaborating compete against each other to please their managers, so that they may receive a promotion or salary increase. In reality, there are no objective success criteria for you as an employee. The vast majority of employees experience how their careers slowly but surely wither, in an institution that has long since lost its relevance. This does not prevent the leading minority from putting their foot down on the toil of their subordinates, and living good lives with high incomes, good benefits and diplomatic status. The organization is not led by leaders, but by narcissists. A real re-furnishing of the management is required in order for this organization to be saved, and its employees with it - before they flee to other institutions like rats from a sinking ship!

Pros

Salaries/Tax reductions Job stability - it is difficult to be fired as all public institutions Benefits

Cons

It is a very bureaucratic and hierarchic institution - the decisions are taking top -down. Usually the team meetings is the Head talking and everybody agreeing. Far away of a collaborative environment. Disengaged people - It is common to hear around that people are here just because of the salaries and benefits. In my opinion good professionals want to work with the best colleagues.
