Pros

sometimes there would be food trucks. Work socials paid for by the company organised regularly. Health insurance and dental.

Cons

Place was chaos to work in. Constant equipment failures meant going from crisis to crisis. Probably due to the lack of preventative maintenance. Equipment sourced not fit for purpose also causing problems but hands are tied to make it work as that’s how the process has been validated. Also budget restraints. Real issues with reasonable expectations. High workload and short timeframes to complete work. Would regularly be given a task with half an hour or so left in my day and be told it was required for near enough first thing the following day (urgent). If there were any roadblocks you were met with critique rather than support from some colleagues which made for uncomfortable weekly meetings. I was asked to work on things I had no experience with, this was highlighted at the time but didn’t matter as no one seemed to know any better than I did. Literally no training in the role whatsoever. Sink or swim situation. An uncomfortable ‘us and them’ mindset running through the place. Felt mostly between the Glasgow and EP sites. It felt like a lot of cloak and dagger. Also between the manufacturing department and anyone who worked in the office. It seemed as though the supervisors in manufacturing were in constantly disagreement with everything, had a very negative outlook on the business, would actively go against instruction and would encourage the same in their direct reports. There was a combative mindset here to anyone who wasn’t in manufacturing and a strong resistance to change. I believe these individuals have since left the business though, so this may be better since. Health and safety department… When I worked there the company was collagen solutions so, trying to be fair, these issue may be being addressed by the new management.

Where to start....

Pros

People you work directly with. Would not be able to survive in a place like this without them.

Cons

Every review stating an Us and Them mindset is correct. From the first week, direct line managers did not want anything to do with you. Made you feel unwanted and unwelcomed. There was such a strong communication disconnect between departments it makes you want to put a head through the wall. One person would be told something in passing and that was considered "department communication" Health and Safety...No one is saying it but the place had none. Former Health and Safety advisor was abysmal, preferred focusing on seemingly random objectives and disregarding genuine concerns. Not to mention uncomfortable... It begs the question why so many people have stayed for so long? I personally think they were comfortable doing a sub-par job...Raising issues with processes to managers which were disregarded at the time and later became problems. "Why was this not raised at the time?". Ignorance is Bliss. Individuals were seemingly given promotions out of necessity rather than them being fit to do the job. The constant influx of American Executives being flown out for a pizza party, to mispronounce the city what was the point? This place is better off closed down.

Toxic cesspool of a company

Pros

Great location for commute, train station 10 minute walk and retail park within walking distance.

Cons

Cons? Where do I start?! The concept of the organisation is outstanding - if ran correctly it could make a huge difference to end of line users. However, most of the “products” were still in infant stages of development. Processes were determined by people outwith the manufacturing floor. Colleagues in the team would ostracise new members if they wouldn’t adhere to silly playground tactics, such as referring to people with bullying nicknames. The manufacturing team could not be trusted to run a bath. Clean room was not fit for purpose, though led to believe it’s been refurbished. Two “team leaders” more interested in talking about fantasy trading card games and outside politics than establishing a team environment. Training was none existent. Essentially told to read SOP’s and get on with tasks. And if errors were made everyone would gleefully make you aware and again further ostracise you. No matter how many years’ experience of manufacturing you have, you’ll be lost in the shuffle of post graduates attaining roles they have no clue about. Health and safety? What Health and Safety? Place is a disaster, HSE would have a field day.
