Pros

Free coffee, casual dress, and a gym reimbursement program. You know, all those things terrible companies use as recruitment but once you’re there, you realize they were just toys used to hide the fact that the work is so terrible. Best part of the day were the coworkers we could commiserate with, but most of those people are gone (less than a year after I left) due to the crazy turnover..

Cons

50 hours a week is in the initial schedule for official documents but after your training, 50hrs sounded like heaven. 55+ is the actual expectation and that’s just in the office. Forget about the time you spend on the phone and email on nights and weekends. Toxic culture with 2 owners who have no idea of how to run a sustainable business. It is a dog eat dog environment where questionable-at-best ethics practices between coworkers, management, customers, and carriers are encouraged to get ahead. This is a turn and burn job. They want to pay minimal salaries to new people and milk them for every hour they can for a year then cut them lose and start over. It’s cheaper to do that and change the commission structure every quarter than retain and pay good employees.. ..not that they can do that anyway though because their downtown office has dropped from about 35 employees down to less than 15. Ever notice how all their social media posts are recruiting focused with a tag like #chicagojobs or #logistics? It’s because they either can’t keep or don’t want to keep top talent and high earners, but insanely high turnover is the result either way. They have no respect for their employees and they don’t want to, you’re just a number. All positive reviews are done by management, fake accounts, or people in their first week who don’t know that’s coming. They asked me to write a 5 star review on my 3rd day and I said, I did but didn’t. The excuse of “well it’s a startup what do you expect” is no longer valid after being in business for nearly 15 years. They’re all about outer appearances and surface level perks but once you peel back just 1 layer of stinky rotten Chicagu onion, the appearances break down and only a failing company is left.

Pros

Free breakfast and camaraderie between peers in the most stressful, poorly managed environment I have ever experienced.

Cons

Their idea of Sexual Harassment training is showing clips/photos from the show the Office, which I thought was funny and ironic until I was sexually harassed by a member of management and HR did NOTHING about it. HR was provided with text message, email, and Skype history proof of the harassment. Fastmore's idea of solving the issue was giving the person 3 days paid leave while an 'investigation' was conducted. At the end of said 'investigation' the manager was brought back and was told to give me a 'formal' apology in person and continue as normal as though nothing had happened. I was forced and expected to interact with this person business as usual. There is no work/life balance with people there working 60-70 hours a week killing themselves for an at will company that has and does terminate people without warning.

Pros

The people I work with are amazing, talented, and hardworking. They are not appreciated at all and are treated like numbers in a revolving door.

Cons

This company is run by people who have zero idea how to run a business, and their response to not knowing what they are doing is simple: reduce headcount. Here is a quick breakdown of a series of decisions that really encapsulates their level of management and business sense: 1. This company had an office in Chicago and Elk Grove, roughly 30 miles apart. Not exactly a red flag, but still odd. 2. In October 2019, they hire a class of 10 people, 9 for Chicago, 1 for Elk Grove. January 2020, they hire a class of 4 to work in Elk Grove. This isn't a bad thing, but it is common knowledge that the logistics industry slows down during election years and in the spring, so the timing for these hires is questionable. 3. In February/early March 2020, they decide to close the Chicago office (after resigning the annual lease in December 2019), laying off several employees (with severance and insurance), the remaining are offered severance or continued employment in Elk Grove, which they must decide within 24 hours if they want to relocate. The reason given is encouraging "synergy" which is a thinly veiled "we can't afford Chicago" 4. In mid-March 2020, the majority of the remaining Chicago employees who relocated to Elk Grove are fired WITHOUT insurance or severance. During a pandemic, I might add. Brilliant. Last thing I will add - I witnessed management encouraging new employees to post 5-star reviews within 2 weeks of employment. Can't say some aren't genuine, but be wary.
