Limited exposure to revenue-generating activities and front-office decision making. Career progression can be slower compared to investment roles, and compensation growth may plateau over time. Work can become repetitive depending on the team.

Retail, with the wrong branch manager, you’re not connected. If the manager is not an advocate for you, finding other positions and getting trained is difficult. I found some managers and associates in other locations helpful; but finding time to assist with their other demands was limited.

Lay off culture is real. If you want a promotion, you better be super friendly with management because that’s the only way you move up. Management is generally awful. Most departments are super toxic. I had one promotion during my time and was told it was coming so many times. Forget getting a decent pay.

Mortgage IT is an extremely toxic place to work, Senior management has no idea what they’re doing and they are very much interested in blaming anyone besides their own incompetence. The lack of technical understanding and basically just pandering to shadow IT from the business org is shameless. Diversity is also so bad that I’m surprised they haven’t gotten sued.
