Old school environment, Resistance to outside ideas and change
Pros
Great benefits, be sure to negotiate additional vacation time up front and aggressively, otherwise you get the bare minimum despite market standards.
Cons
Below market pay rates. Every communication that is sent needs to be scrutinized, as someone will take issue with something and blow it out of proportion to their benefit. Much of the Executive Leadership has been with the organization for many years and are resistant to change. They will accept the change to start and then work to sabotage it to go back to the old ways. As a result, turn over is high for younger people. New people to the ELT level are friends of the ELT who toe the line or have the same thought processes. Anyone that pushes for change is eventually run out. Straight up questions include, "Is this the hill you want to die on?" & "I've been here for 20+ years, I'm not going anywhere soon!" Only some corrupt management has been removed. There is still a long way to go. If you don't have 20 years of credit union experience, you clearly don't know what you are doing and methods you bring in from the outside do not apply. Many of the Senior leaders will shoot down the ideas brought forth by new talent, only to claim them as their own later. There is little recognition for up and comers.
