Pros

- Lots of interesting work - Really supportive culture - Everyone is looking to improve - Colleagues from all around the world!

Cons

Only thing that came to mind is the equipment stipend for engineers is lower than I've seen in past companies and has no refresh, won't cover an up to date Mac which is a shame! That being said, rewards are reviewed every year, and the compensation is in general really strong

Appreciate that feedback on the equipment stipend! Be sure to add that feedback when you complete the annual perks benefits survey 💡 Thanks for the review! 🤩

Pros

Float is fully remote and promotes async work. It's a joy to have no commute and a calendar free of time-waster meetings so that your time at work is optimized. The product is interesting to work on and the team is diverse, smart and capable. It’s energizing to work with people who are based all over the world. HR does a great job with communication through the interview process. Onboarding is excellent and the vacation time plus perks provide for a an above average (for the US) amount of time off and flexibility. The annual meetup is a great opportunity to work together and get to know colleagues in person, plus they pick non-standard, interesting meetup locations like Lisbon, Athens, and Chamonix, France.

Cons

Managing timezones can be tricky. Sometimes an in-person call is the best option to advance the work quickly, but multiple timezones make it either impossible, or mean that someone has to be up late or early to attend. The workaround is to record a video message, watch later and comment async. This generally works well – most of the time it's actually a great option, but in some situations an in-person discussion would be more efficient. On balance though the benefits of working remotely far outweigh any minor inconveniences like managing timezones.

Thanks for the great feedback! We definitely love our team meetups - looking forward to seeing everyone in Osaka this year! And we hear you about managing timezones - pros and cons to it for sure but in the end, like you said, the benefits far outweigh the need to mange timezones for us! Well said.

Pros

One of the greatest pros I can give on Float is that everything is tremendously transparent. From the interview process, to the onboarding process, to receiving feedback, to how to grow within the company, everything has been VERY clear. Comp package is very fair with clear paths for exceeding your number. Everyone in the company operates with excellence, with an eye toward doing better than the last thing you did. CEO is very involved in a positive way. Clearly cares about the direction the company is heading and has a clear directive on how to get there. This team listens to it's customers more than any place I've been to and clearly prioritizes the features that are being heavily asked for. Async environment is not for everyone; however, if you can clearly communicate with examples/evidence to paint an easily understandable picture, this is not an issue. Even with an async environment, everyone celebrates the work we do together. Culture is one of positivity, excellence, and continued improvement.

Cons

With an async environment, there are a lot of different places you have to be able to go/operate. Since you have a lot of autonomy, people won't always be available to hold your hand, so you have to figure things out for yourself. Not really a con, but just the reality of working with a global team.
