Pros

The long-run opportunities at Frank Rimerman are amazing. The ladder to the top is no where close as cutthroat as the big 4. Hours throughout the year for a tax associate are very fair. Tax seasons are bad, but the down time is pretty relaxed. Management here is practically unparalleled. They are friendly, patient, down to earth, and considerate of how staff feel. There is a tremendous amount of flexibility. You can be lazy and get by and you will never be fired. Or you can own your work, and carve out your career path, and eventually make a lot of money. Either work at this firm, at least for the first few years.

Cons

Tax season can be brutal, but its nothing like the Big 4. One should differentiate this job compared to a "normal" 9-5 job, and compared to a Big 4 job. If I were to stay in tax and/or public accounting forever, the Big 4 is the last place I would do it, and Frank Rimerman would be an excellent bet for the long haul. Office politics can nit pick at morale. Management wastes too much money in recruiting; the same level of recruiting could be achieved without burning so much money.
