Excellent product, awful culture

Pros

There are some incredibly bright and creative minds at this company who genuinely care about the industry and customers. The compassionate, human-oriented soul of the company is still intact - although this compassion is external-facing only, and even this is likely not for long.

Cons

The CEO has made it clear that he does not want his company to be remote-first and the company is therefore run with old-school in-office policies that do not translate well to a remote environment. As a result, the company culture is one of extreme surveillance and compliance - prioritized over actual job function performance. If you are a remote work veteran who is used to the give-and-take flexibility of standard WFH startup culture (put in the extra hours when needed, take breaks when needed - just make sure the work is done and done well), then this company will not be the right fit for you. There are many contradictions in the company policies that will make it feel hard to meet their exacting standards. For example, you will be asked during your onboarding phase to download all of your work tech stack to your personal phone but reprimanded if you use your personal phone for work. Expect PTO use, unconventional working schedules, and genuine collaboration to be frowned upon at best, punished at worst. Zoom fatigue is real at this company - there's a large number of mandatory meetings (you'll never have time to actually get anything done) and a strict camera-on policy. There is high turnover and low morale here, and I shudder to imagine how this will worsen with scale. Long story short - this is a high-anxiety, low-reward work environment and I suggest you stay far away.

Pros

- excellent product - friendly coworkers that work really hard - interesting industry - competitive salary

Cons

- micromanagement to the extreme - management very clearly plays favorites - little to no investment in employee development/growth. they'll fire you on a whim, 10 or so employees have been fired in a year since i joined - as a result, employee morale is quite low

There are no words to express the amount of gratitude Fundraise Up has for each and every person who has contributed to our work. While FRU works through our next phase of growth, we recognize changes must be impactful and must be geared toward a consistent future. As we work through this transition, we plan to use each of these reviews to build consistent processes that make every contributor feel that they are valued and heard. That includes thoroughly reviewing current processes and determining their weight and impact on each team member’s well-being at work. Thank you, again, for your service and this review.
