Pros

It was nice when the job ended

Cons

They actually had a punch card time clock. You were under pressure not to take sick time off, in the interview they actually said we don't like people being sick. When my mother died the HR manager phoned me trying to pressure me to come in. The managers scream at the employees.

Pros

I have been with GEW for over 20 years, starting as a Graduate Engineer straight out of University and progressing into a senior management role. During this time, I have seen the organisation grow significantly and have had the opportunity to grow alongside it. GEW designs and manufactures Arc and UV LED curing systems for printing, coating and converting applications, and has developed into a global leader in its field. It offers the unique benefit of a close-knit environment where everyone knows each other, while still being large enough to provide diverse and rewarding career opportunities for individuals who actively embrace GEW’s values and ethos. This is clear from impressive figures of almost 60% of staff having completed more than 5 years’ service. The culture at GEW is collaborative and results-driven. Regular team-building activities and social events contribute to a positive and engaging workplace. The second generation of family management is bringing fresh ideas and a modern management approach, while maintaining the company’s strong core values. Recent introduction of flexi-time initiative is widely welcomed by the staff and is supporting vital work–life balance. The business is also entering an exciting new phase, with a purpose-built advanced manufacturing centre being developed next to the existing headquarters, supporting further growth and innovation over the coming decade.

Cons

GEW relatively has a flat management structure which favourably supports fast decision-making and agility; however, in some cases, may limit broader involvement of the stakeholders in decision-making process.

Pros

Implemented flexitime recently (just depends on your role which one you get after probation). They progress from within, I think most managers are home grown. Training plan when first join is really detailed. Induction is pretty seamless. Good team feel and definitely get the pros of a family run business.

Cons

No ability to work from home but with new flexitime this isn't really something I think about much these days.
