Pros

Game X Change on a normal day is a great company to work for. This was easily one of the better jobs I have had. All my co workers we’re fantastic and if you enjoy working with customers this is 100% your kind of work.

Cons

Jon Wilson and much of company treat the store like an Amazon warehouse. Employee happiness and satisfaction does not matter to them. They prioritize hiring many new people to fill roles when senior employees quite due to being underpaid or having problems with upper management. They have created a constant cycle of hiring new employees who stay for only a few months making the work load much higher for senior employees. Instead of firing an employee who is not preforming their tasks or show up late they will not fire them they will schedule them one day a week until the employee quits or leave to avoid them filing for unemployment. The job itself is great, the company is hands down one of the scummiest small company I have ever worked for.

Pros

Working around video games and getting to talk to the cool regulars is fun, usually had good coworkers

Cons

We had bare bones staffing and hours. You start at minimum wage despite holding responsibilities (like having a key to the store and the code to the security system) that above normal expectations. Trying to take a day off was impossible because you’d have to try and coordinate trading shifts with someone else because upper management only let us have the bare minimum amount of employees needed and the very VERY bare minimum of hours. Every single employee was required to work Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and the day after Christmas so if you had to travel for the holidays, tough luck. I knew employees who hadn’t been home for the holidays in the last 2+ years because they couldn’t travel there and back in time. Raises were trash. No benefits or sick days or anything unless you were a store manager or higher up. The pay increase when promoted to store manager was trash. Store managers were required to work Fridays, saturdays, and mondays, no exceptions, every week. Every employee had to work every weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. Upper management ignores complaints or criticisms. After I left they started taking in way more stuff and way more responsibility was put on employees, and I highly doubt they got raises for that. Also the VP tried to force workers to work during COVID and spread COVID misinformation. Overall a horrible place to work, speaking for the locations in southern US.

Money's not everything...and here, it's virtually nothing.

Pros

So much fun to get paid to talk about video games during the day. Some of your best, most honest customers can become decent friends.

Cons

No benefits other than employee checkout and discount. No insurance, vacations, retirement, nothing. Wage for both managers and associates borders on insulting. Managers have to constantly placate employees disgruntled over workload at minimum wage. This, however, makes finishing projects AND taking care of customers a tall order. Has to be done, though. Too much turnover, the manager is obviously a failure. Buy/sell/trade business model attracts all manner of addicts/scammers looking for a quick buck. Female employees especially reported discomfort with some of the customers we were forced to cater to. Low trade values immediately led to angry customers, some of whom threatened violence due to their likely chemically altered state. Interviews are supposed to take over an hour while manager works through enormous series of psychoanalyzing questions regarding your past work history. (Again, for a minimum wage position.)
