Pros

Learnt a great deal, worked with fantastic people who were all enthusiastic in the beginning. Most of those people have left or been made redundant now.

Cons

A lot of micromanagement; really hard to be heard if you don't follow mgmt viewpoints. It's not a place for new ideas.

It Could Have Been Great

Pros

A lot of freedom and flexibility. Great, if you consider ping pong more important than your job and how you are being treated.

Cons

Favoritism and a lot of hot air. The management talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. The employees are being told that they should trust and be open about feedback, that failure is an opportunity to learn and improve, yet, somehow this is only true for some. Most don't get the chance to improve, failures are blamed on teams rather than management decisions, and open feedback can badly backfire. The trust is expected to be given to the management, but they fail to reward this with open and honest feedback. Blunt and rude comments are excused with their "Dutch directness". They aim to be a modern company with a start-up mentality, but behave no different from any other middle-class company, when it comes to people management.

Pros

At a time, a good assortment of talented, experienced hard working people fun to work with. Managed by like minded people. Good work environment with the usual studio perks offered ie, games, ping pong, fuzeball, and Friday beer parties. Great location. Nice employees.

Cons

People with experience, subdued by higher management, constant pressure for overtime. Most of the people that helped make the studio good in past, have been driven out via frustration, exhaustion from working in this manner over and over. Location and climate alone are a great reason to relocate. The people hiring you will likely use that as a main point of enticement to work there. Along with a signing bonus. But once you are moved free of charge, it's used more as leverage so you will agree to do overtime. I'd say the work aesthetics there are good as there are many like minded-young people around who enjoy game design -some very clever people that you can learn a lot from. But if you expect to have a job that will leave you available for dinner with your family on a regular basis, then it's something that this place won't be inclined to help you with. They don't exactly force you to do the overtime, but they will make you feel indirectly responsible for it and in most cases will be the direct cause of it themselves due to their own mismanagement.
