Company is in trouble

Pros

Overtime is paid and alternative work schedule is nice.

Cons

Lack of work due to audit. Company began laying off employees. Lay offs blindsided employees as management gave no heads up. Employees were told that they were terminated and were asked to leave that morning.

Pros

Great amount of autonomy, flexible assignments, surrounded by nice people who were very welcoming. All around really great experience

Cons

Lacked structure. Most assignments were very tedious and seemed trivial without explanation.

Pros

Nice office and people. Decent/competitive starting salary. Every once in awhile you might get a raise without even asking, but it's not negotiable. Good benefits: 401k, health, gas reimbursement, cell phone stipend. Only customer is PGE. Satisfaction in knowing you could possibly be saving people from blowing up due to gas leaks. People who stay long enough seem to get promoted. Best thing I got from this company was a sweet Klean Kanteen.

Cons

Ultra boring work. You live and breath excel sheets with random numbers and data. Zero engineering background is necessary for this job, except to get hired. They basically audit PGE's gas service/maintenance records and help manage the replacement of old gas lines (more or less). Upper management couldn't care less about project engineers. Some middle managers watch your every movement, making sure you're not late, don't take long lunches, don't leave early, don't surf the web or talk too much to coworkers. They will monitor your activities even when there is zero work to do, which was the case most of the time because the company lost tons of work from PGE. Very high turnover rate at all levels. This experience is utterly useless for any other engineering career path, all you need to be able to do is use excel and read maps. Depending on your project you may have tons of driving and spend a lot of time at different PGE locations by yourself or with a teammate.
