Very Toxic Culture

Pros

Interesting work. Some possibility of promotion from within. The manager of my department is fantastic.

Cons

Very toxic corporate culture. Departments are very segmented and not collaborative. Director- level management promotes an “us vs. them” mentality that creates a lot of friction between employees. Corporate does not present detailed or cohesive plans so middle management ends up with competing priorities, which creates confusion and hostility in the field. Communication from corporate to the field is sporadic and non-specific. Projects and new initiatives are pushed from corporate to the field with little or no forethought or planning. Corporate projects a “family” image but their policies show they do not value their employees. Even after 2+ years of the pandemic, they are not flexible regarding work from home options, and they DO NOT SUPPLY EMPLOYEES WITH ANY SICK TIME. Employees are expected to either use vacation time, to take days unpaid, or to come into the office sick. Several upper management employees have bragged about how many hours they spend at work, and imply that lower level employees should do the same. Some upper management members have implied that they have the right to patrol/police what employees do in their off hours. Corporate has sent out politically motivated email blasts, full of inaccuracies, encouraging employees to vote a specific way. Upper management has also promoted political and religious agendas, which is unethical at best. The company does not value diversity. The executive and director levels of management are almost exclusively older white men. Women and people of color are represented only at the district level or lower.

Zero Work Life balance

Pros

Decent health insurance options for employees

Cons

Long working hours leave zero time for a healthy work/life balance. They expected work during paid vacation time. When upper management visits production facilities everyone-including employee spouses-are on pins and needles before, during & after the visit. If I don’t look for a less demanding role I may lose my family.
