Challenging Environment Due to Weak Leadership

Pros

Some great people at the lower to mid levels who are always willing to help out a fellow colleague. Reasonable sales goals that are attainable.

Cons

Gimbal has an extremely defensive culture. A culture where no one wants to admit when they are wrong. This is a top down problem that is bleeding to other parts of the organization. Majority of our leadership team is out of touch with the organization, a true 'boys club' and with exception of our CRO, they keep their blinders on until it is absolutely no longer possible. People have titles that they don't deserve, because the leadership team is barely visible in HQ and uninvolved in the day to day. COVID 19 is clearly having a devastating impact on the economy, but I was not prepared for how Gimbal would handle it. The first week the stock market began to be severely impacted by COVID 19, our CEO and the leadership quickly began layoffs & furloughing employees. The first week. We were all so shocked . We went from being told how healthy the company was to this in a matter of weeks. It showed us all how dispensable we all really are. I understand terrible and difficult decisions have to be made in times of crisis, but it was how the news was communicated to the rest of the company that was shocking. The CEO began the presentation (about the layoffs/furloughs) with a quote from Ghandi. Along the lines of health being the real wealth and not silver. This is WITH the people who had been furloughed on the phone. Yes, health is important, but these people have bills to pay. He then proceeded to put up a slide with the names of those who were fired/furloughed. Again, with the people who were furloughed on the line. Where is the compassion? I am one of the lucky ones who still have a job, but I am so rattled by how this entire situation was handled. The way leaders show up in crisis shows their character. I believe Gimbal has the potential to be a great company, but I am not sure how that will happen with the existing leadership team in place.

Thank you for your feedback, and I’d like to be the first to apologize for actions that may have made you feel dispensable. Our employees are the most valuable asset we have, and although furloughs/layoffs became unavoidable due to COVID-19’s effect on the economy, I want to highlight that we all took salary cuts (with the highest at the executive level) in order to keep those numbers low. We took these actions quickly in order to avoid greater repercussions in the long term. I will definitely keep your comments regarding our communication top of mind as we continue to navigate this. There is certainly a fine line between trying to maintain transparency in an organization as small as ours and trying to be respectful of each employee’s privacy. All those affected by furloughs/layoffs were personally communicated with prior to any kind of company-wide announcement. I hope you’ll stick with us through this difficult patch as your insight and contributions are essential to what we do here.

Pros

People are great. Some work flexibility and good health coverage. DTLA is a fun place to work.

Cons

CEO has no idea how to run a company. He hasn't worked in the corporate world his entire career life since he's been busy trying to be an entrepreneur. Therefore he can't relate to his employees. When things don't go his way, he is temperamental like a 6 year old child. Completely immature. And he's delusional thinking that he can be a big fish in the marketing industry when he's hardly ever around to run the company. His assistant is equally immature. She seems to get upset when the CEO has a new girlfriend and she's toxic to the whole company with all her gossiping. Lastly, I find it interesting that on June 9th there were three 5 star reviews and on June 6th one 5 star review. I'm pretty sure this is the CEO's sad attempt to raise his Glassdoor review.

Thank you for your feedback, but I'm going to take off the kid gloves here for reasons listed below. I'll handle your last point first. It is true that, from time to time, we ask active employees to leave honest feedback during their tenure to offset the negativity posted on this site by disgruntled former employees like yourself. We don't force employees to leave positive ratings, mostly because we can't. We don't give bonuses for giving the CEO 5-starts because that's illegal. The only thing "interesting" about the increase in positive ratings is that your monitoring this site on a daily basis. Second, it is below the line to attack other co-workers with illegitimate claims. It’s one thing to be critical of senior management, but spreading gossip publicly about a team member who has been with the company for 5+ years is disrespectful and untrue. Lastly, I will add that we haven’t had a Marketing Specialist at Gimbal since... ever. In my opinion, this completely invalidates the entirety of your review. It’s one thing to leave an anonymous review on a site like this; it’s another to lie about your role. And if you're lying about your role, what part of your review is factual? We'll let the readers decide.

Not Worth the Headache

Pros

Good benefits. Some really smart people working here.

Cons

Lack of resources, especially for remote employees. It seems if you are not working at HQ, you are forgotten. Company doesn't value creating good company culture. There are a few employees who are mean spirited towards other coworkers and when management is informed of this issue, nothing is done to try to fix it. They lost a few people due to this. Management doesn't know how to encourage and motivate their employees. They can't seem to manage their finances properly. Checks have been delayed/bounced.

I’m really sorry to hear this as we put a lot of emphasis on maintaining an inclusive environment for employees in satellite offices. While Los Angeles is our headquarters, we actually have more employees outside of LA at this time. All teams use video conference and chat communication tools, and we bring all employees together in-person at least once a year. If you felt disconnected while you were here, I wish you would have spoken up sooner.
