      Beware of the CTO

      The business idea is fantastic

      Cons

      The CTO who is 6 years out of college and never managed before has very unrealistic and inconsistent expectations. He praises you one week for meeting his extremely aggressive demands and then disparages you the next week as being too slow and claiming his earlier praise didn't count. This has led to severe turnover in the engineering department as well as extremely slow hiring and understaffing.

      We operate with a deliberately high bar for performance, speed, and ownership. Direct feedback is given frequently and we move fast. This environment works very well for some people and is not the right fit for everyone. As a result, we have intentionally parted ways with some early members of our engineering team who were not aligned with our pace or expectations. We are cautious about hiring because building the right culture early matters more to us than growing headcount quickly. We believe GovWell is a generational opportunity to transform the way that government works in the United States for the better. We will only achieve this goal by creating an exceptional product and keeping our engineering team lean, quick, and talent-dense.

      Fast-growing company with a team culture that actually lives up to the hype

      Pros

      culture here is genuinely special — BD especially has a real team feel where everyone is locked in, pulling in the same direction, super collaborative. Most people here are young, hungry, and actually want to be here. This makes a huge difference and is unlike any corporate environment ive been in before. Leadership invests in the team and there's real momentum behind the product, our GTM motion, hiring, etc.

      Growing pains are real. The company is scaling so fast that we're literally running out of physical space

      - Extremely talent-dense team - Everyone is also genuinely good people / kind - Most mission-driven organization I've been a part of, it's a huge source of inspiration and camaraderie - Lots of autonomy - Hybrid work schedule

      Cons

      - Can be intense / long hours - Physical can get cramped at times (although company is in process of moving spaces)
