Great place to work

Pros

I love the people I work with and I love my job. Although progress is often slow due to our long term view as a company, there are a lot of people trying to push our company into the future and grow with the industry. Benefits are great, and employee ownership is a real point of pride for Graybar.

Cons

We are slow to change and sometimes different functional groups don't work together well enough

Pros

I cannot give them any "real" pros. I never write reviews. I am not disgruntled, upset or fired. I am only writing this review to save you the headache of turning down a true opportunity with a much better company. It was so bad I couldn't stomach it for more than 3 weeks. I read the reviews, and like a dummy I did not listen. I thought they were just angry losers who were fired. We are not. These reviews are true. Management would say only angry people write reviews. People are nice but depressed and you can tell they want to die but they have been their so long and are so uneducated that they feel trapped. You can tell. It was so boring and unchallenging and so depressing. I couldn't wait for the day to end. They gave me a small desk facing a brick wall literally. Which was depressing. All they do is eat and look sad. Don't don't waste your time. You will regret it. It is not outside sales. They monitor your every move and baby sit you.

Cons

Many. The base salary I received was $57,000 with an MBA and years of industrial sales experience. No real benefits. No corporate credit card, they want you to use your money and reimbure you. You get about 22 cents per mile for gas. They will tell you before they hire you that you can have a home office. Then you find out that they really want you in the office constantly and monitor you all day and if you do do any home office work you have to pay for all supplies yourself. They are cheap with the cell phones and have you on a tight leash with normal data. The on boarding is so bad and they do not know how to train people. I was extensively trained by Grainger, and Graybar's training was a joke. We discussed my family obligations prior to my hire and they did not honor that, they do not respect working mothers, and do not care. They give you a Ford Fusion after 3 months and you have to drive your car till then. It was so bad it was a waste of my time is my only regret. When I was there I couldn't believe I had done this to myself. I felt like I was tricked. People in office are nice but depressed and miserable. I felt sorry for them. My supervisor was a hot mess. Religious freak and just awkward. He had a weak personality and just a weak leader. He was lazy and had no training plan at all. Not competitive in price and DO NOT PAY OUT COMMISSIONS. Again, I am so detailed so they can clearly figure out who I am. Oh and their IT department is the secretary. Don't apply. Run. They hired 2 people before me and the one kid came in had a cup of coffee and left. They other man, left less than a month. The other sales reps won't help you. Try it. You will remember this review.

Stable, Strong, Employee-Owned

Pros

Excellent place to work. Promote from within culture has really accelerated my career (3 promotions in 4 years). I enjoy working with the leadership team. The CEO has a strong vision for the future and is highly engaging. Her passion is infectious. The long history and employee-ownership make for a unique environment where you truly feel connected to the success of the organization both through your work and financial rewards. Great stock, retirement benefits, learning, leadership, culture, etc!!!

Cons

Base pay is average in the market place, but if you look at total comp (add profit sharing and incentives) it is well above. Benefits costs are comparable with other employers (rising due to health care reform...but whose isn't), but could offer more less-traditional benefits (flex-time, fitness club discounts, casual dress - at least one day a week, etc.)
