Pros

It's a job....barely to survive with the income but it's job. I guess better this than staying home for nothing.

Cons

Very long hiring process and lots of paper work. ( Background check, drug test, polygraph test, 40 pages application, 500 psychological questions test) Low pay(usually $10-11/hr) Old and already worn by other officers uniforms Monthly training( it's not a real training, they will ask you to read some materials and copy the answers on the sheet every month. totally waste of paper) No room to advance Very old school and cheap company ( They still run the business like we would live in 70's or 80's)

Pros

They used to pay well and give annual raises and bonuses IQ test and other screening procedures help ensure intelligent and capable employees, for the most part, unless nepotism is involved, that is...

Cons

Critical, abusive CEO Unreasonable demands made from the top down So much sexism Few opportunities for advancement on corporate side - once you are in a role it nearly impossible to move around within the company unless the CEO thinks you are special for some reason (i.e. pretty if you are a female, relative of a friend of the CEO's family, relative of someone that CEO thinks is important) At the time I left raises had been halted for several years, and bonuses were only give to select groups within the company Outdated business practices all-around

Pros

You may like it or not but it's a job. Free but already used uniforms. Some sites offer direct deposit. You get 5 days vacation after 1 year of employment.

Cons

No room to grow. If they promise you a rewarding career, believe me it's a lie. A little pay and of course no pay raises for officers. Guardsmark is so desperate not to give you over time.(Lipman and his buddies must make good money not security officers). The hiring process is ridiculous.! Just to give you an idea: 40 pages application, 500 psychological questions, Polygraph test, Drug test, Background check, you need to get 6 references from your neighbors and then.....welcome to Guardsmark, you can enjoy a "career" for $10/hr. After 5 or 10 years of employment you can expect to get a pin with a letter from Lipman. (What a joke!)
