    Doesn't Recommend

    I worked at H.Samuel part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Clean and tidy environment
    Nice customers

    Cons

    Patronising staff
Un-helpful staff who don't want to support you especially if you are young.

    Advice to Management

Work on reminding your long-standing staff that they were also young once and need lots of support in this type of job.

    I worked at H.Samuel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Discount on jewelry/watches

Competitions for staff members to win holidays/prizes etc

    Cons

I was only on an Apprentice wage (£3.70.)

Didn't get much training like i was promised in the interview

The main focus seemed to be about meeting sale targets and as an Apprentice, i found it a bit too stressful and was pressured by my manager a lot to meet my targets.

I worked in a small team who welcomed me however they would often gossip about staff at other H.Samuel/Ernest Jones stores.

    Advice to Management

Be more honest about what the Apprentice job role involves, such as sale targets etc as i don't remember that being mentioned in my interview.

    I worked at H.Samuel part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Only positive that came out of this was the experience I gained which I will take elsewhere and some of the friendships I have gained.

    Cons

There was always issues with hours in the store and there not being enough hours for everyone. There was also a lot of unnecessary bitchyness from the younger members of staff and management. You would find management and the other staff quite frequently huddled in the back office talking while you had a queue in the shop. Christmas temporary staff are made to feel very unwelcome, we were actually only employed for around 8 weeks and during that time we always felt like an ‘extra’.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate every member of staff that you employ even your Christmas temporary staff, you may just find that your ‘Christmas temps’ are doing a better job than your permanent staff. Sometimes a thank you can go a long way...
