      Pros

Excellent pension they put 27% in ,you put in 5.4%. It works out around £600 a month. Overtime rate is £22 an hour. After your 8 weeks training, you get a Level 3 Diploma in Custodial care. Would recommend someone young joining the service.

      Cons

Most experienced officers have left the service a few years back to cut costs, in effect most officers in service have barely 2 years experience, which is alarming. I found I was working a wing under staffed more often than not. Staff facilities were poor or non existent. The service in my opinion is been moved to left, or even far left of the political spectrum. Dealing with people who have committed self harm and suicide is a horrible experience, working with convicted sex offenders is awful. Shift pattern is all over the place, you be working every other weekend. It's not great money for the job and responsibilities you are charged with.
