Pros

Lots of vacation time, holidays, mostly cool people and a great deal of job freedom.

Cons

People who do nothing are overpaid, people who do everything are underpaid. Fosters a culture of misogyny despite claiming to be progressive. I did all my bosses work while he did nothing all day and made $250k a year

Talented staff, horrible publisher

Pros

Smart editorial staff, deep literary history. Though incredibly conservative about change of any kind, the magazine has nonetheless taken journalistic risks over the years.

Cons

Publisher determined to run place into ground by not evolving the magazine in any way. His hatred (and farcical misunderstanding) of the internet is legendary, but even the print magazine has not been redesigned in more than 30 years. He fires or drives away good talent. A culture of fear rules.
