Pros

Close to home, operations guys are a great team to work with

Cons

Lack of training and support, family values are not lived, and why do you ask for opinions if you have made your mind up already?

Pros

Many of my former colleagues who are good people

Cons

I can only echo the comments of others. The senior management team (including HR) are an absolute embarrassment. Certainly that is the case in the UK. It is a toxic cabal where nepotism is rife and if you are perceived to be a threat to their position then you are removed. The MD in the UK has absolutely no appreciation of what his managers are up to or the feelings of staff that have the utter misfortune to work for them. He clearly has completely given up he cares so little about what is happening around him. A culture of failure exists where the management take absolutely no ownership of the situation and they go through a constant cycle of cutting staff and shutting locations. The ship is sinking and they will do anything to suppress information that portrays a negative image of the FAMILY branding, which should be subject to the Trades Description Act. During my time two locations have been closed and one location is on the brink. Comments about turnover of staff are absolutely true, at one location in a 2 year period I counted 15 members of staff came and went. My story is probably echoed by many people who have left and are not aware of Glassdoor. I think if HQ in Germany knew of the reality they would be horrified how these people are tainting the brand of a once respected company.

Pros

Personal fuel milage is a good benifit.

Cons

Through my time at hellmann there was a huge amount of churn-, the European road freight director left, two UK sales managers came and went, one of my line managers left (we have 2 for a team of 4), and about 5 people came through the sales team. This was in a period of a year. The management were hugely unprefesional and inapropriate in there coments to staff, things such as giving inapropriate nicknames to team members and only using them behind closed doors, appearing to hire people based purely on there looks. The internal systems used at hellmann are outdated and cause issues between departments (think teletext sort of level) which you will be expected to take the hit on and let down your customer rather than sort out the route cause. Heads of department run rouge and do whatever they please despite having verbal agreements with them, for example if you ask transport for a price and then offer that to your customer there is no garentee it will be correct or honoured. All in all this company has lot of internal issues, which don't look like they will be solved any time soon which makes the job unworkable. The GP targets are easily achievable but they will find any reason not to pay commision.
