I worked at Home Instead part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Cover petrol Pay is competitive across care sector Can suit parents who look for work during school hours.

    Cons

Need to have car insurance cover that cover business use - can cost extra on your cover to make the change. 3/4 day training unpaid. 0 hour contract across all carers, as a result: They expect you to have full flexibility, offering less than 15hrs a week. I had to seek other employment to support myself financially, as a result they were very bitter to the end, telling me on the phone 'im happy to let people down, is that what you're saying'. When I offered more availability internal emails were sent to me by accident saying not to use me as I'm not reliable - considering I never had a sick day, went to visits they failed to tell me they cancelled (waste of journey), able to cover at very short notice. They then decided to cease employment with me as I wasn't doing enough hours on a 0 hour contract - laughable as they don't stop hammering on about how they don't have enough carers. Disorganised office - called me after they ceased employment with me, asking if I can cover. Times when I did overtime and called office during visit, they didn't make the amendments and had to prove it by a follow up email I made and showing call log that a conversation happenned with office. In training they strongly express repeatedly you will always have 2 shadow visits with each client before you start alone - every client I was with I only had 1 shadow visit.
