Pros

Some of the people are really nice and work incredibly hard. That’s literally it.

Cons

-Terrible culture and work/life balance. - Lack of senior management with experience outside the company - you’ll find that most of them started there years ago with very little experience, have been promoted internally through nepotism or necessity rather than merit and now look to people who are more junior in title to give them direction. - Everyone is expected to be a doormat for the Sales Team to trample over on the way to collecting their commission and anything the client says goes, even if it means the other teams are going to suffer in the process. - Decisions are made with money in mind, even when it is clearly raised that it will have a detrimental effect on the teams. They don’t care about anyone’s well-being in the slightest and would rather people burn out or breakdown and leave than taking on fewer projects. - Don’t get attached to anyone because the staff turnover is HIGH. Even freelancers are turning down decent day rates because they can’t stand it. Senior Management ignore the underlying issues that cause so many people to leave. - Every one is too busy working on so many projects at once that no one cares about any of them at all. - Creativity is lacking and apathy reigns (see above). - They will (try to) take on any project going, even if it makes no Editorial or Creative sense and force teams into working on things most decent publishers wouldn’t touch. - HR/Finance/Ops are all run out of the Hong Kong office so the other regions have no autonomy over basic processes and decisions are made so far from the reality of everyone’s day to day working environment that they actually make everything worse. - The pay is SO bad for anyone not earning bonuses/commission. Ironically, these are also the people who have to work so hard to execute the projects and then they send out the company results that show all that work is making millions in profit when most people can’t even get a competitive salary. Seriously, it’s a joke. - Terrible comms/working relationships between departments. Everyone is trying so hard to protect themselves and their teams because they’ve been burned by bad decision making so many times that collaborative working is like pulling teeth. - The “office” (co-working space) is really dry and lacks energy but this actually reflects the company itself so maybe that is something they got right.

Pros

- Variety of brands you get to work with - The teams on the ground across all departments - Having it on your CV (the outside world are yet to know how un impressive it actually is)

Cons

All unexperienced to be in the roles they are in, have been promoted internally despite not having previous management experience. In my time there I lost count of the passive aggressive slacks at 7am/9pm, asking me questions on subjects and matters which only hours before I had updated them on. Ask the questions, but don't actually listen. Then they get asked and don't have the answer so then you get asked again and again. Why have weekly meetings and updates if they don't listen or feedback? Lots of smoke and mirrors around the business. Externally they claim to be the biggest platform in the world for their target audience, yet internally use the 'we're still young and a start up' to hide and provide excuses for simply poor running of the place. HR, dont make me laugh. Senior people in the business have had multiple complaints and disputes made against them yet still sit pretty in their ivory tower. The review below with 4 stars - take the time to read it. Does it seem a little defensive, a little staged, deflecting. 'Fast pace, sometimes people can keep up' LOL classic HYPEBEAST tone and attitude. If you were to look at the previous employees that have come and gone, they've all seemed to do just fine in other places, often bigger and more successful than HYPEBEAST, yet they cant keep up. Or is it about the support and management? I have used it on my CV to open doors, meet cool people but equally I'm now embarrassed and annoyed with myself that I subjected myself to working in such a toxic environment for so long. HBX, their own retailer. 15% off for staff - laughable!!!! I get more discount at my local coffee shop for using it twice a week.

Sinking ship of racist culture vultures

Pros

Most of the people you work with are nice.

Cons

A company that is build on black culture yet hires barely any black people. Racist people are not reprimanded for doing incredibly offensive things. Instead, they get promoted. Horrendous really. Kevin Ma couldn't manage a company to save his life. Constant massive redundancies. No pay rises. No benefits whatsoever. Hong Kong management is inept at best. Inept people leading teams. Crazy hours spent working on projects that don't even get signed off. The company is going downhill incredibly fast. Barely any projects happening. The CEO has a team of lackeys/yes men who are utterly useless. One of them PURCHASED an ENTIRE BUILDING in to set up the HQ in it but guess what?! The building didn't have a permit to be office spaces! SO ALL THAT MONEY WENT DOWN THE DRAIN. Guess who got to keep their job even with such an atrocious mistake costing MILLIONS? Ma's right hand dullard. Who had to suffer? Everyone who got FIRED unrightfully when they didn't want to pay severance. Pathetic. DO NOT board this sinking ship.
