A Nightmare Job

Pros

I loved the team I worked in, everyone was willing to help and full of support both emotionally and professionally. The work itself was reasonably challenging with fair deadlines and working hours.

Cons

A number of the team worked long hours in particular sub sections, it felt as though they were very bdly resourced with a lack of knowledge. Team management was appalling, managers failed to provide information to the team resulting in chinese whispers. As a result staff turnover was high and there was a huge amount of unhappiness where members did stay. Managers continually spoke negatively of their staff, both loud enough for the team to hear and with no substance or positive effect. The idea wasn't to speak to a team member and let them know where they had done wrong but speak about them so you were aware but without any evidence. Salaries also appear to be much less than other similar job roles. HR also seemed useless, never around to speak to for support either in the instance of setting up interviews or guidance with handling particular situations.

Pros

- Very nice people, I had fun working there. - Good work/life balance in the sense that you hardly ever have to work late, and when working late rarely after 7pm. However, no WFH flexibility at all for juniors, when the account director of my team had one or two days WFH a week. - Not too fast paced, which if you come from hectic kinda agency can be a plus. - Good socials although not too often.

Cons

- Promotions are extremely difficult to come by and the pay in general is not very good. - Because of the above, talented and ambitious people leave and you can tell most of the people who stay are those who can't be bothered and don't care much about their job. Some of the people there are very talented, but many are quite bad. - Senior management is especially bad, they just don't know what's going on (at least when I was there).
