Pros

Perks: Lots of free swag and gifts, fantastic office space, free insurance benefits, and lots of ancillary benefits. Comp: High salaries and generous cash bonuses. Reputation / Brand: IEX has a fantastic reputation as a "good guy", which is a rare thing in financial services. This positive reputation plays two roles, it helps to attract people who are about values (can also be rare in finance) and it allows IEX a favored position in its interactions with outsiders. Good people: With the exception of management, the people that work at IEX are talented and generally embody the values the company espouses.

Cons

Management: Management is very inexperienced and architected mainly around founders and insiders. Promotion opportunities for non-insiders (e.g. early joiners, CEO and founders' friends) are few and far between. If the CEO is friends with one of your direct reports, you might not have your job for long. Management decisions don't seem to forecast more than 6 months in advance, so critical decisions can seem to be made on a whim. Management is not structured like a tech company, so reviews/team growth/career growth are nonexistent. Do not expect constructive feedback, promotions, or role or career growth. Insider culture / cronyism: There is a culture built around early joiners and other "insiders". It is relatively commonplace for insiders to have an inside line to senior management, and the ability to act with impunity as their proxy, while everybody else has to work with the non functional HR feedback system. In one particularly egregious instance, an insider got the head of his team fired, a fact which he proudly shared across the company. Insiders are also held to a different set of standards for things like hiring and costs. Few opportunities for female technology leaders: Technology, which is a large part of the company, is dominated by male managers (again, insiders and founders). There are few career advancement opportunities for female engineers. At an internal event, one member of a technology team shared how HR frequently undervalued/underpaid female engineers, to the point of trying to offer two equivalent candidates (one male, one female) vastly different compensation. Party Culture: While IEX has strong values, internal culture most frequently revolves around drinking beer in the office. If you don't like beer, you're unlikely to become an insider, and if you're not an insider, you're unlikely to find a long term career here.

Pros

The atmosphere is relatively relaxed in comparison to other finance companies. Office is nice with a view.

Cons

A lot of change has happened in the last 6 months or so. The company is going through growing pains and an alarming amount of people in critical functions left the firm. Management is trying to project an optimistic and positive outlook while hiring a lot of people, though at times it feels quite forced. The company low balls employees when it comes to compensation and there is little transparency in how they are being determined. The company also does not provide clear paths of career progression within the firm. Promotions/rewards are based off loyalty rather than merit.

Pros

There are some great people at this company that make it really fun. The work put in, will get noticed by your team. You will learn a lot! Pay ok, huge gap between certain groups. Benefits are amazing. You will have a lot of responsabilities. Expect to take on 2-3 jobs, the company is small. Some like this, some don't. If you fall into the category of liking it, than you should interview here, it really is fun for that type of individual.

Cons

The drive we all had seemed to evaporate pretty quickly once the company moved. Acknowledgement and insight by higher ups is lacking. Promotions take a long time to come by. No performance indicators from managers to gauge how you or the team are doing. The company has seen higher rate of older, original, great talent leave that put this company where it is today. Quality of hiring is down. Management is shuffling friends within the company and promoting them then the engineers that have been at the company and understand the technology and architecture better than anyone.
