Pros

Beautiful workplace, friendly and talented coworkers, wide range of projects, monthly yoga, pet-friendly office, many opportunities to be mentored by senior designers, annual educational fund (upon approval).

Cons

No annual raise, extremely difficult to get a raise even after working there for several years, difficult to move up in roles, no flex hours (very strict about the work days), overtime requests are not always approved but deadlines remain (and are often unrealistic), overtime dinners are questioned if the bill exceeds $15/person, promise of opportunities to travel are not met, extreme favouritism, unusual procedures (I.e. window shades to be drawn to a certain level, frowned upon when you do not eat lunch with the partners, can not place anything on top of upper desk surface, must push chair in specific way, etc.), and when employees leave, the partners often say only negative things about the ex employee.

Pros

- Amazing & amazingly talented staff that you grow to become very close with & wish you could work with them forever - Inspiring weekly staff presentations - Annual education fund & professional days (upon approval) - Monthly yoga sessions - Free to use the partners's memberships to galleries & museums - Annual lunch provided by the partners - Nice breakfast provided at Town Hall meetings - Lunch & Learns are consistent and well organised (thanks to the librarians) - Sometimes there are prizes to be won from random raffles & draws - Beautiful main studio located in a gorgeous heritage building - Studio is very well organised & maintained - Dogs are allowed & very welcomed - Year end Christmas party is always a blast - Travel opportunities for designers - Workshops in leadership & conflict resolution (well organised by HR)

Cons

- You become close with your coworkers because you work long hours together and go crazy together so lots of opportunities to bond - Can not be a minute late to work even if you stayed to burn the midnight oil (very strict about this) - Unrealistic expectations for staff presentations (designers use their own time to do the work at night or on the weekend) - Hard work is not recognised nor rewarded (i.e. no annual pay raise, can't even pay rent with your bonus if you get one at all) - Weekly timesheets add up to 37.5hrs but OT doesn't count until you've worked 44+hrs (you do the math) (I thought free work stopped after internships?) - Very little room to grow & if you do ask for a raise or promotion, they make it very hard for you to progress - Extreme favouritism towards a selective number of staff - Travel opportunities are promised but not always given, especially to non-favourite staff (favourite staff members get to travel repeatedly) - The partners are overly sarcastic & judgemental which can be hurtful (i.e. makes "jokes"/comments about how employees dress/look/smell & judges employee's choices in fashion, travel, restaurants, etc.) - Bad attitude/bitter/unprofessional towards staff

Pros

Nice main office (upstairs expansion is a different story), free lunches weekly with lunch and learns, constant treats in kitchen (beware weight gain!), brand name

Cons

A place to be if you choose work over life. Management not very knowledgable in handling clients and interior design processes - puts a strain on the entire studio. Little to no personal work/life balance, designers are way too overworked and extremely underpaid, OT compensation is a joke, low to no annual bonus, not closed during Christmas week like some other firms do. Designers have to produce 1-2+ presentations a year for the staff to lead the weekly staff meeting - basically done on the weekends in own time. High employee turnover, constant fear of job security as it seems someone is fired every month or so. Bad work culture with lots of back stabbing and gossiping! One of the partners is very condescending, he basically runs the place and everyone is constantly just trying to please him. Their method and rate of firing people is scary. Doesn't seem like they really value their employees even though they say they do. You'll most likely be let go before given an opportunity to move up internally.
