Pros

As part of a union having college credit benefits available Starting pay is decent

Cons

Buying tools and boots to work upfront can be costly Lots of mistreatment and inept leadership, particularly from JATC portion of union Pay goes up miserably slow by $1/year until top out as Journeyman Wireman after 5 years currently and get treated subpar from others as an apprentice 0 PTO They pay to train you but you must pay some $800/year upfront per books Very few benefits besides pension and college credit

Pros

After 5 Years of the Electrical Apprenticeship Program you'll be making 23.00 an hour and have full benefits and 3 pensions as of 2014. Also you'll be able to travel anywhere in the United States and be guaranteed a job as an electrical Journeyman making top dollar in that area.

Cons

There are only a certain amount of NECA Companies so you must be a good employee if you want to make the Journeyman rate.
