      Excellent place to start your academic career

      Pros

      PhD students (AKA predoctoral researchers) enjoy generous scholarships and private-insurance benefits enabling worry-free life in a vibrant city that Madrid is. IMDEA provides financial support for international trips to conferences, and generally makes it easy to focus on doing your research. The academic staff are very talented and well-connected in their areas, and can offer the necessary guidance for starting a successful career in research. The administrative staff are friendly and competent.

      Cons

      None, really. Perhaps, you should keep in mind that this sort of career requires being able to work with a high degree of autonomy, which might be not to everyone's liking. In particular, you will need to be proactive and ask everybody for advice about structuring your work (fortunately, at IMDEA you will have many brilliant people to ask).
