Pros

Can be very fulfilling, you get to help people overcome substance abuse, mental health challenges, financial hardship and personal struggles. If you are passionate about this field you could start as a shelter worker, become a case manager, and eventually a manager or even director. Benefits are good. Multiple health insurance options, dental, holiday pay and you earn PTO from day 1. They do tuition reimbursement.

Cons

It’s not easy. Guests or clients may be difficult, aggressive or hostile. In the shelter you have to deal with people having accidents a lot. Some managers are better than others.
