Pros

I loved the experience of working on a retired U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier with such an amazing history as the USS Intrepid. I had some great experiences, made some great friend, and meet new people.

Cons

Overall experience was depressing and oppressive. It's a poorly managed museum, and unless you suck up to your supervisors you'll get no where there. favoritism and micromanagement got worse over time. Morale deteriorated amongst staff, and the general feeling is that people just don't care anymore. The ship and aircraft are in poor shape, but as long as visitors keep paying to come management could care less about the staff or its product. Everything is overpriced, attendance has been going down steadily overtime, the ship and the aircraft are degrading from lack of upkeep. what could have been an amazing museum was just a nightmare.

Worst Place To Work

Pros

The supervisors in Museum Services were very fair and understanding and fair when I told them of any situation that occurred during the workplace. They always acknowledged my good work.

Cons

Coworkers on the same ranking as me did not take their jobs seriously. They gossip as if it is high school despite supervisors giving stern warnings. Security department is highly undisciplined. They make sexual comments towards female coworkers and guests and act as if they are immune to discipline and Human Resources is very unprofessional. They only take the word of corrupt security guards and then they deny it and refuse to hear the side of the alleged individuals.

Pros

The mission is pretty cool. It's really neat to work on an aircraft carrier. I met some great people...who all left!

Cons

Where to begin? The upper management is out of touch and completely complacent. Most are just coasting and there's no accountability. A few exceptions, of course, but those folks don't tend to stick around. There's a huge fear of change or even experimentation and many exciting ideas were shot down "because we don't do that."
