A sad situation

Pros

I joined because I thought that they were a seasoned professional organization with a common goal and plan to execute. In reality they have no pros.

Cons

Everything - starting with the Executive Management. They are in it for a payoff through buyout or going public. Any smart company will stay as far away Jacobson as possible. Pricing - Why is it that companies that don't have a defining product and a focused plan to build sales rely on raising prices to existing customers forcing them to look for a new provider? Product - What product? The executive staff talks about being the premier end to end solutions company, but I only know of one person that wanted to define it and build it and they either fired him or forced him to quit. Systems - They have tons of different systems with no solution in site. The IT and Product people talk about defining a solution, but instead executives just try to buy off the shelf products. Customer References - I don't think there are any left.

Pros

Aside from a few good sales and operations folks, there is really nothing positive to say. The best thing about the place was not having to come back there every day. The organization is deteriorating across all three divisions. Definitely not the culture that the original owner would want to instill in his customers and clients.

Cons

An inept management team relying on outside consultants. Management "claims" to be open door when in fact the only open doors were during "confidential" meetings with consultants talking about organizational cuts and firings. Management does not and did not listen to qualified staff who have either left or been fired from the company. Certain divisions (i.e. International) are . A sad story of what is wrong with American companies being run by venture capital folks who have no idea about growing multi-national logistics companies. Several disconnects between what management expected and what the organization could deliver, especially in the international division. Certain divisions run with a favoritism toward legacy employees that do not have the ability lead the organization forward. This is a place where "execution" doesn't mean acting on a business plan, it means mistreatment of valuable human capital which makes the difference in today's competitive world.

Pros

It's a job. Low paying, but it's a job.

Cons

Compensation varies, but, definately lower pay scale, unless you get hired by your friend, then you get paid more than those who should have been promoted. Management has NO respect nor do they care about the "LOWER" class employees. Management does not take any advise from the employees. They talk safety, but, it is just talk unless something happens, then it is YOUR fault. Need repairs on your truck? Well that depends on whether they paid their bills. Most suppliers (vendors) will not extend credit anymore because the bills are not paid.
