Pros
I started at Kinetix as an intern and then was hired full-time once I graduated from college. After being with the team for 2+ years, here are my thoughts:
- Kinetix does a great job of making sure the right people are on the right bus. The interview process may seem long, but it works. Culture fit is a high priority for Kinetix.
- The people are awesome! Everyone is friendly and fun to work with. It's refreshing to work with so many people who are different from yourself but have the same goals and desires to produce great work. We have company-sponsored happy hours where everyone either gets together at the office or goes out to a local bar/restaurant.
- There is a lot of direction and vision provided by the management team. The company does a great job of setting quarterly benchmarks. It feels like the entire company is working together to accomplish high-level goals.
- Kinetix has a calm, fun, and driven CEO. He does a great job of driving the vision for the company, which has contributed significantly to the success of Kinetix. He is very easy to talk to and participates in company events.
- Lots of tools are provided to not only help you accomplish your daily tasks but also go above-and-beyond, allowing you to create value for Kinetix and yourself. While learning new skills is normally encouraged at other companies, Kinetix takes this to the next level. Learning is required but, in turn, it is rewarded and celebrated by everyone. Kinetix will pay for you to improve yourself (e.g. paying for certificate courses, books, etc.) and encourages that everyone takes an hour of PWT (Private Work Time).
- Clearly outlined career advancement! Kinetix has a system called the Career Progress Tracker (CPT). It's an outline that states everything you need to do to get a promotion/raise and paves a future for you within the company. If you are interested in other departments or roles, you can work with your manager to design a career path that leads there.
- Open to new ideas and improvements. There is a process where you can submit any idea you have for Kinetix and the entire management team will review it. If they feel it is a valuable improvement, there is a process to make it a quarterly project.
- Strong on feedback. While the feedback process at Kinetix is a bit unorthodox, there is plenty of value in it.
- Tons of opportunities for growth are offered at Kinetix. There have been people at Kinetix who started off answering phones and worked their way to becoming a Senior Project Manager. The company truly values its people and as opportunities open, they do a great job promoting from within.
- Depending on your role, you will have a lot of autonomy here. There's not a lot of micromanaging going on at Kinetix and you are expected to hold yourself accountable for the work you do, which is refreshing. However, you’re not alone; while you are encouraged to problem-solve on your own, if you need help the management team is always there to provide guidance.
- Documentation is huge at Kinetix. With so many internal processes and clients, documentation plays a large role in assuring we all on the same page. Everyone is encouraged and even rewarded to expand and update documentation.
- Open floor plan. Everyone here sits together, meaning you get plenty of face time with management and can easily collaborate with different departments.
- Unlimited PTO. Kinetix encourages people to take time off and there is an internal process to help you organize your workload before going out of office.
- Company-wide WFH day!
- Location, location, location! I commute to the San Mateo HQ from Berkeley, and even though it’s a bit of a drive (50 minutes avg.), I really dig the location of the office. Trader Joe's is right across the street, there is a café downstairs – both convenient lunch spots! Building management arranges events throughout the month (lunch and learns, socials, fundraisers, food trucks, workout classes) that are free to attend. Parking is free and there’s a gym on-site for all tenants!
Cons
- Lots of internal processes to learn. As a new team member, it may be a bit overwhelming to grasp all the processes at Kinetix.
- High workload, especially when other team members are out of the office. When multiple people in a department are out at the same time, it can create quite a challenge for other team members.
- Swift changes without much notice. Kinetix has gotten better at this but there have been instances where we change an entire process with a day's notice.
- No 401(k) matching.
