Pros

It is a very relaxed environment. The job itself is very flexible. The teacher's are wonderful, and the student's are a joy to get to know.

Cons

There are no concrete policies in regards to make up classes and return policies, so everything is done on a case by case scenario which leads to chaos and confusion. The director has 3 other locations, so their physical presence in the office is limited to about once a week to sometimes once a month. They micromanage their locations via emails and phone calls. Sometimes questions from the administration staff are not answered immediately, and if the director see's the question/comment as irrelevant it is not responded to at all. Staff members are constantly being asked of ways on how they are going to attract more students to the location yet when suggestions are made the suggestions are not taken into consideration. The director has an authoritarian way of managing and is very hard to approach with comments or concerns. When reasons are given as to why there is no improvement in the company it is always taken personally and backlash is felt. The administration staff must work as secretaries (clerical, filling, and organizing), janitors (vacuum, take out the trash, clean the classrooms), and personal assistants (do everything that the director asks of them including new project ideas) termination of employment is almost immediate and without a reason or warning if there is a lack in any of those 3 areas.

Pros

You will enjoy the casual environment and the close, personal contact with the teachers and students. There is such a diverse population, so you will get to meet people from all over the world from all walks of life which will make it a super exciting job. Truly, this company has been so lucky to attract some the most professional, dedicated teachers and it is rewarding just to work with them. Also, there is plenty of free candy, coffee, and tea!

Cons

The greatest disappointment in working for this company is that for all the great potential for growth and expansion, it is stagnant and you can only expect to hit a glass ceiling the day you start working there. Given the authoritarian style of management of the company, employee and teacher development is completely lacking and all decisions are made with the end goal of protecting the management's personal ego instead of choosing the best option/suggestion/idea for the company's success. Furthermore, because of this extreme need for control, the company is totally disorganized and many important tasks are left undone. The management shows a lack of confidence and respect for their employees and furthermore, has expressed distrust in the team of teachers, which I know is their most precious resource. Unfortunately, this has begun to push away several teachers that had been so loyal and supportive of the school in the past. Sadly, this is not the attitude of every member of the management team, but it is the way of the member that exercises all the deciding power. On several occasions, this member has been known to yell at and berate some of the office staff and makes a very obvious distinction in the treatment of the teachers depending on their nationality. Personally, it was difficult to witness all this because I came in every morning, worked my heart out, cried my eyes out from all the effort I would put in and was met with aggression, a total lack of appreciation, and nothing but obstacles to meeting company goals as well as my own. Little by little, this chipped away at my passion for what I had believed the company represented until I had nothing to offer them any more and I left of my own accord.

Pros

Working at LD was a pleasure. I was there for 3 years. The staff and coworkers are awesome and the clients are absolutely incredible. Everyone (staff) is very nice and patient.

Cons

Management can be difficult if you're "young". Once you bend over backwards for the company it becomes your baseline and though they say they understand hardship, they do not. Also, coworkers can frequently go out of town for vacations but if you're not married and under 30, forget it.
