Pros

Salary and potential remote options

Cons

Buckle up. This company gave me both mental and physical damage that I am still recovering from. Marisa is probably one of the worst human beings I have ever met. Not only is she narcissistic and controlling, she treats her entire staff like absolute dog crap. She will call out and bully her employees publicly for the entire company to see, expect outlandish deliverables as if we can read her mind, and ask for personal favors, then complain when they aren't done to her liking. If you are student of hers, I am simply so sorry. She does not care about any of you, she cares about making money and showing everyone how "smart" she is. This isn't even the worst of what I personally experienced, but several of my colleagues are recovering from this company to this day. The attrition rate is absolutely atrocious. Someone is either fired or quits every month, that is why there are so many job postings all the time. To conclude, if you don't want to get on anxiety or depression medication, do not join this company. And if you do, I guarantee you'll refer back to this review with regret. Best of luck, Marisa!!! :)

Pros

During the hiring process, they're keen enough to spot intelligent, kind, hard-working people and bring them onto the team. Most teammates I worked with were a delight—knowledgeable and helpful, knew the fine art of excellent feedback, highly empathetic, and more than willing to help me advance my career. Unfortunately, those people are unable to stand the culture/environment for long; most leave after just a few months. Pay is a little more competitive, especially if you're a remote employee who doesn't live in an expensive metro area. Benefits package is also impressive at first glance... but again, most don't stick around long enough to take advantage of it, as most benefits kick in after the 9-month to 1-year mark.

Cons

TL;DR: Even the most resilient people burn out FAST here. Why? Very little time off. Emotional abuse. Blatant favoritism. CEO possesses little or no empathy, has unrealistic expectations, can't take feedback, and expects everyone's lives to revolve around her company. If they don't change their ways, they're going to drown in lawsuits from employees who suffer work-related mental and physical anguish and disability. Exceedingly high voluntary turnover. Talk a good talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion, but once you're behind the scenes you see they don't walk the walk. CEO regularly throws temper tantrums and berates employees in front of their peers/teammates on Slack, email, Zoom meetings, in person. Who she pretends to be in front of her customers/audience is completely different than who she is behind the scenes. Character assassination of former employees on public Slack channels. Not being a good fit for a company is one thing, but the CEO and her spouse unjustly and cruelly attacked former employees' character and intelligence. Employees are expected to be "coachable," while the executives doing the coaching do not practice ethical, consensual coaching and are unwilling to hear feedback themselves or do introspective work. Promised employees generous paid holidays and PTO, but burned employees out by constantly creating new projects, events, having unrealistic expectations, leading to the vast majority of the team working holidays and enjoying very little time off.

Pros

Great team, fair salary, gave me more to talk about in therapy.

Cons

Imagine a so-called visionary with no vision, a leader who couldn't lead a parade if it had one float, and an "empath" who's about as emotionally intelligent as a brick. Mix them all together, and you've got the hot mess that is LYM. This company is a sesspoll of toxicity and the Head Narc in Charge is Marisa…She is a HORRIBLE person.

Most people find it impossible to work with her for an extended period so turnover is a NIGHTMARE. She can find a flaw in everything and rarely offers praise or encouragement. In her view, it seems like no one can do anything correctly, and she often treats her team with condescension and sarcasm. Working under her feels more like participating in a stressful reality show, where she plays the role of the uncompromising judge. But here's the kicker – she's never wrong. Even when she's wrong, she's still right, and you're somehow wrong for making her wrong. What you see on the surface is far from the truth. She's like a character in a mystery novel, hiding behind a facade that's as phony as a three-dollar bill. The image she presents to the students is a carefully crafted illusion, and the reality is a whole different story. Behind that facade, she's got a truckload of daddy issues that she projects onto her “team” constantly. In truth, she's a scared little mean girl who constantly projects her insecurities onto others to convince herself that her daddy was wrong about her. It's like watching a toddler throw a tantrum , she’s just doing it with a more adult vocabulary under the guise of a genius.

Remember that time you messed up three years ago? Yeah, she's got it archived in her memory bank, ready to be trotted out at a moments notice – in front of students, staff…at a party. She’d probably bring it up at your funeral. She had a knack for being in the spotlight when things went well, basking in the glory as if she single-handedly conjured success out of thin air. But when things went wrong she pointed fingers at anyone but herself. The idea of taking responsibility for her actions seemed to be beneath her and gaslighting was her go-to communication technique, a skill she mastered to perfection. Marisa's penchant for setting unrealistic goals knew no bounds. She planned horribly and expected people to work tirelessly as if this was OUR brand, often pushing people to the brink of burnout, all in the name of achieving her grand vision. As long as her dreams were fulfilled, she seemed unfazed by the toll it took on the team's well-being.

This company has so much potential, but it will not be around in a year if She who shall not be named remains at the helm. Marisa might be an expert at spotting flaws, but she's blissfully blind when it comes to her own. It's like she's the star of a never-ending sitcom where she's the only character. Somebody needs to switch the channel, or this ship is sinking faster than a lead balloon. Trust the reviews and RUN.
