Pros

If you are part of the In crowd and liked by management you are safe. If you enjoy Bullying, Harassment, Intimidation and threats about your job security then this is also the place for you.

Cons

Unless you have no other option. DO NOT WORK HERE! Management has encouraged employees to provide positive reviews to hide some of the negative reviews that have been written. MG2 has become a terrible environment to work in. You would think that with the current climate of Harassment and Bullying that there would be a bigger initiative to stop this. The poor treatment of others starts at the very top of the Leadership at this office and is continued down through middle management. If you have a voice or try to stand up for yourself you will be bullied, intimidated and embarrassed in front of your peers until you submit. I have personally talked to HR about certain individuals in this office with little no recourse. This is not new to this office. Behavior like this has gone on for years. The absence of HR in this office promotes this behavior to continue. I, like many others I am sure, are actively looking to get out of here.

Pros

Good breakfast Fridays Generous indv. workspace (some) good people to work with

Cons

Pay rate is VERY low (making 11.5k more at the same position at another firm) Does not effectively manage people - in my 1 year there at a 27+or- person office 9 people have been hired and 12 people have been fired. Before, the office had a very welcoming and healthy culture with some very good people but there has been a sudden shift from that to a more CYA environment where everyone acts out of fear for their jobs Horrible management of workers time and schedule. they over promise to clients by accepting projects with low budgets they expect workers to keep 50-60 hour work weeks as the norm with no overtime or substantial bonus. They many times expect you to not document hours or allocate them somewhere else causing a bad representation for how long tasks really are and then expecting that same (documented) turnaround the next time. No Professionalism - I have whitenessed (on many occasions) employees, including top level management yell at and outright disrespect others in front of the entire office. I have seen employees being talked about behind their backs and plotted against. Also former employees who were fired being openly slandered and blamed for things they did not do. This helped to create a culture where people only thought about themselves and not about the betterment of others or the company. Inconsistency with management - The VA office is many times instructed/managed in ways that are contrary to the overall company goals. Also Mid level management being instructed in ways that are contrary to managing principal. Little to no opportunity for growth - Raises seem hard to come by and promotions are very limited as they choose to hire for upper level positions instead of promoting from within. I have experienced these 4 things that best summarize

Mediocre Firm

Pros

Only "pro" comment is that I was employed during the pandemic.

Cons

I hope you avoid the mistake I made in joining this company. Yes, they paint an enticing picture of what it’s like to be a part of the team, which is very attractive to those that are fresh out of college. Fast paced, exciting projects, national firm, equality driven and so on. Don’t believe all the BS. In reality they are nothing more than a mediocre architecture firm focused on delivering mediocre design to big retail clients. You will never see award winning design coming from this place. It’s all about production. You are expected to burn long hours, get it done, move on to the next box and repeat the cycle all over again. If all you want is a job, then it’s a perfect place for you. If you want a promising career in architecture, I advise you to look elsewhere. Leadership consists of myopic narcissists mainly concerned on lining their own pockets. Their view of most employees is that you are nothing but a tool, but they will try to convince you otherwise. There is a deep reason why this firm has a high turn over and poor reputation. A word from a once naïve Architect, please do not fall into the same trap I did, look elsewhere.

We are disappointed to hear about your experience at MG2, as we take pride in all of our projects and want all of our employees to feel they are making a difference. Proactively reaching out to our teams for it often, we listen to feedback carefully and are swift to make changes to improve conditions we are made aware of. Our leaders are continually working on ways to expose early-career architects to more diverse work typologies, while still meeting the production needs of our large retail clients. We sincerely hope that you found our Diversity & Inclusion initiatives a positive experience; it's a huge focus for our firm. MG2 is striving to provide a culture and work environment that is collaborative, inclusive, professional, and respectful. But most of all, we want to be a company you feel proud to work for. While we fell short on that during your time here, we thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback. It's critical to helping us on our never-ending journey to be a great place to be.
