Pros

There's a good interview question I like to use sometimes: "What is the job you were hired to do?" followed by "Did you accomplish that?" I think they're important questions to ask candidates. At Q, everyone here is trusted to do the job that they were hired for. Everyone else in the room is there to offer support and collaborate, but ultimately you need to get it done. And that's awesome. Every day I get to come into work and know everyone else trusts me to get what I was hired to do done. The employment policies are mature, trusting, and progressive for a start-up, from the policy that "Everyone Cleans," to WFA (Work From Anywhere) Summer Fridays. The organization is super transparent- notes from the executive team meeting are sent out biweekly. The old adage "if you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room," need not apply to Q-- everybody here is smarter than anybody else I've ever worked with. Also, there's no shortage of good times. We like a PBR and old fashioned Happy Hour.

Thanks for riding the rocket ship with us and bringing your great attitude everyday! It’s a work ethic like the one you bring to the table that helps keep Q special. And yes - everyone *does* clean. That value is core to our culture. We are lucky to have awesome HQ operators like you who embody the Q code. Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts. Looking forward to those WFA summer Fridays :) -Amy, Director of Talent

Q will take over the world

Pros

In a time of contractor employees, Q has taken the initiative to break that standard, providing great career paths for both it's cleaning and HQ operators at competitive rates. I've been working at Q since the summer of 2015, and I have to say that this company is filled with some of the brightest minds I've met. Besides that, the employees are genuinely caring and commendable people who put 110% in to every task they do - whether it be for their department, or if they are just helping out a fellow coworker. The company culture is unlike anything I've come across before. I've never woken up at 6 am with a smile on my face because i get to come in to work. When not discussing work, slack is filled with light-hearted conversations and jokes, and all of the employees are very close. To me, this creates a better work environment for everyone. A better work environment produces better quality work. Even though my coworkers and superiors are very nice people, that does not mean they do not demand a certain level of performance, and are not afraid to let you know if you are not performing up to the Q standard. It is a very independent work environment, so if you enjoy that you'll thrive. If not, you may have a hard time adjusting to the way we do things.

Cons

As most of the cons on here said, the work-life balance is a little tough, but that is expected of a start up (for me at least). Especially with our recent expansion to the west coast, I find myself helping out the San Fransisco office late at night, sometimes even around midnight. However, this doesn't bother me because I know i'm depended on. If I don't help my coworkers, then they can't do their job, and the company isn't operating at 100%. Sometimes you need to sacrifice if you want to be a part of something great.

Q is a Shining Example for Other Startups

Pros

Q is unlike most startups. The number 1 goal is treating employees right. This in turn has led us to create great service and grow at a very exciting rate. Unlike a lot of companies in the on-demand startup space, Q does not utilize 1099 independent contractors. Q hires all non-office employees as W2 employees and treats them right. Everyone can move up in the company and has a clear roadmap of how they can progress. I've never seen a company where the employees are so happy to be part of the team. In addition to the clear roadmap for career progression, as W2 employees, one avoids all the other pitfalls that come with 1099 contractor work. Office employees are also treated extremely well at Q. The upper management, including the CEO, is extremely supportive of everyone. It's shockingly great how well upper management treat their employees compared to what I've experienced at other places in my career. Salary is good for a startup. Benefits such as paid monthly transportation and a good holiday policy are excellent. Dental, vision and health is also completely paid for by the company. Teams within Q are also nice environments to work within. Teams are all involved in the hiring process for their own teams, so we really only hire the best. Some interviewees are a bit shocked about how in-depth the interviews are, yet they are for a great reason and really help ensure that Q hires great talent that works for the same mission. A lot of employees are concerned about work-life balance in the startup space. There is no need to worry at Q though. It's great. Health is important to those at Q and the working culture isn't one that will cause you to age any faster than you normally would. It's very zen :). Overall, Q is by far the best employee I've worked for. I'm very excited to see how Q continues to grow and set the example for other startups in the on-demand economy. Also, our office is extremely nice and the location is pretty much unbeatable.

Cons

There are very few cons about Q. I feel that some meetings may be a bit too long without a point. Um... the Bunn coffee machine is bad, but the beans are great. That definitely doesn't make any sense at all. That's pretty much it.
