- Constant stealth layoffs, for the past two years, multiple benefits have changed for the worse. From PTO, RRSP matching, and maternal/paternal leave to RTO and learning budgets, these were all changed to give more control to managers (who often do not approve requests) and were lowered in value overall, leading to a mass quitting of experienced and qualified employees in the following months. - In the past year or so, several of my teammates were laid off without any replacements. - Currently, almost every team is understaffed, leading to an excessive amount of stress on key individuals. - The budget for promotions has become very slim, with managers often being prioritized for promotions. - The management culture is very toxic, with heavy micromanagement and managers who constantly blame teams and individuals instead of helping or taking accountability for their own mistakes. - Extremely chaotic processes and structure, with constant changes every few months. - Uncertainty about the current priorities and future revenue leads to costs cutting and worsening of the product. - No bonuses for 2025, even if you were a top performer.

In my experience, the legal function operated under very tight managerial control, which made it difficult to exercise independent judgment or develop strategically. Communication within leadership could at times feel dismissive or confrontational, which created an uncomfortable work environment. The management style I encountered felt highly micromanaged, with limited autonomy. Feedback and direction were sometimes delivered in ways that felt disrespectful or discouraging, which negatively affected morale. Overall culture within the team did not consistently foster psychological safety or open dialogue.
