Pros

- College Atmosphere - Intelligent people to chat with - Low stress - Stable work

Cons

- Assistants aren't considered "real" employees, so no employee parking, no sick time, no vacation time, no benefits at all. - Pay rate for assistant positions are similar to fast food (barely above minimum wage), even though every position requires a degree - Rarely seem to hire their own graduates

Graduate Student Review

Pros

Graduate students numbers are low, so there is little competition for funding provided by the university.

Cons

Not a great university for graduate students. Murray State does not provide healthcare options for graduate researchers and overall, the administrators often seem confused about how to deal with graduate students, including how to disburse grant funding.

Pros

Fairly easy hours, off for any school breaks, office work is always nice (in my opinion)

Cons

I was awarded a merit scholarship for grades at MSU and was forced as part of the program to do mandatory unpaid student work for different departments in the university. This position was unpaid and we were forced to do it as part of being awarded a scholarship, almost like a punishment for getting the grades that the scholarship required. This program was eventually shut down as someone found out and reported it since it was illegal, but I had to work there for at least 3 years before the policy changed and countless students before me had to deal with the same issue.
